 Awards and Scholarships

The Awards and Scholarships Committee is always recruiting nominations for:

  • Student Scholarship Award
  • School Psychologist of the Year Award/School Psychological Examiner of the Year Award
  • Lifetime Achievement Award
  • MASP Friend of Children Award
  • School Psychology Intern of the Year Scholarship
  • MASP Social Justice and Equity Scholarship
Consider honoring deserving educational professionals for their significant contributions to the field of school psychology and mental health services for children.  

 

 Please consider recognizing a deserving colleague for dedication to our field by attaching your nomination and letters of support to an e-mail and submitting to our Conference/Elections/Awards Committee.


SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST or SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMINER OF THE YEAR

Please consider nominating a colleague for one of these awards to be presented at the Spring Conference along with the internship scholarship.  Any school psychologist or school psychological examiner who is a member of MASP is eligible for nomination. The School Psychologist of the Year will also be recommended as Missouri’s candidate for NASP’s School Psychologist of the Year!

Criteria for the Missouri School Psychologist and School Psychological Examiner of the Year

Nominees who are active in district or state leadership in school psychological services and/or in MASP will be given preference.  Candidates will be evaluated in terms of performance and contributions in these areas:

  • Direct service to children, schools, and families

  • Service through the administration or supervision of school psychological or related services

  • Service to the profession through local and state organizations dedicated to the development and implementation of school psychological services

  • Service to the profession through development of school psychological training programs or through continuing professional development

  • Service to the profession through research and publication that contributes to the knowledge base of the field

Nominations must include:

  • Candidate’s Vitae
  • Four letters of support (one page each) written by individuals knowledgeable about the candidate’s capabilities. These may include teachers, parents, students, colleagues, administrators, etc. At least one of the letters must be from an individual in the candidate’s professional setting.  Be sure to address the selection criteria in the letters.


School Psychology Intern of the Year SCHOLARSHIP

At the spring conference, a $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student at the intern level. Applicants for this final scholarship must be School Psychology Interns practicing in the public schools in Missouri, regardless of the location of previous training.

Requirements for the School Psychology Intern Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a current MASP member and presently serving as an intern in a Missouri school district.
Candidate must submit:
  • One letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the school psychology program currently attending
  • One letter of recommendation from internship supervisor
  • A completed application
  • A one to two page vita listing your academic preparation and any presentations, in-services, publications, etc. you have completed.
  • A one-page statement about how you would benefit professionally as a result of receiving this scholarship. The statement should include your service or other professional experiences that encompass work with children and your future professional goals in school psychology.
Please complete the submit the application two weeks prior to the collaborative conference. Awards will be presented at the Spring Collaborative Conference

FRIEND OF CHILDREN AWARD

The Friend of Children Award honors individuals or groups outside the School Psychology profession within Missouri who have initiated political action or advocacy on behalf of children to improve education and mental health services for children, youth, and families by supporting the work of our Association.  We encourage each of our members to consider honoring a colleague in this way. The Friend of Children Award may be awarded at either the Fall or Spring Conference.
  • Nomination form
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation
  • A one-page description justifying nomination, with a clear link to political action or advocacy on behalf of students and support of the MASP mission and its goals.


MASP FALL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Three student scholarships may be awarded to worthy candidates in Missouri’s NASP or APA approved School Psychology programs the Fall Conference. The purpose of these scholarships is to encourage students to complete school psychology programs and support employment of School Psychologists in Missouri public schools. Additionally, MASP hopes to increase student involvement and membership. The award money may be used for living expenses, research, conference attendance costs, or any other needs related to academic preparation as a School Psychologist.

Requirements for the MASP Student Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a current MASP member and presently attending one of Missouri’s NASP or APA approved School Psychology programs.


Candidate must submit:
  • One letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the school psychology program currently attending
  • A completed application
  • A one to two page vita listing academic preparation and any presentations, in-services, publications, etc. completed.
  • A one-page statement about how the candidate would benefit professionally as a result of receiving this scholarship. The statement should include service or other professional experiences that encompass work with children and future professional goals in school psychology.


The deadline for the Fall Student Scholarship is two weeks prior to the MASP Fall Conference. Awards will be presented at the MASP Fall Conference. 


LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The purpose of the Lifetime Achievement Award is to recognize practicing or retired school psychologists or school psychological examiners who have contributed significantly to the learning of children across their careers and who have dedicated their professional lives to the advancement of MASP’s goals. The Lifetime Achievement Award may be awarded at either the Fall or Spring Conference.
  • At least 15 years of service in the field as a school psychologist or as a school psychological examiner

  • MASP member for at least 5 years

  • Prefer nominee has been active in district or state leadership activities in school psychological services and/or in MASP

Nominations must include:

  • Candidate’s Vita
  • Four letters of support.  ONE page letters written by individuals knowledgeable about the candidate’s capabilities must be submitted.  These can include teachers, parents, students, colleagues, administrators, etc.   At least one of the letters must be from an individual in the candidate’s professional setting. Be sure to address the selection criteria in the letters.

MASP Social justice and Equity scholarship

One scholarship of $1000 will be awarded to a student who demonstrates plans to promote equity and social justice in their education and practice, and who identifies with a group that is historically underrepresented in the field of education. The purpose of this scholarships is to encourage historically underrepresented students to complete school psychology programs and support employment of School Psychologists in Missouri public schools. Additionally, MASP hopes to increase student involvement and membership. The award money may be used for living expenses, research, conference attendance costs, or any other needs related to academic preparation as a School Psychologist.

Requirements for the MASP Social Justice and Equity Student Scholarship Candidate must be a current MASP member and presently attending one of Missouri’s NASP or APA approved School Psychology programs.

Candidate must submit:

  • One letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the school psychology program the student is currently attending
  • A completed application
  • A one-to-two-page curriculum vita (CV) listing academic preparation and any presentations, in-services, publications, etc. completed.
  • A brief statement describing how the applicant meets the criteria stated, including their previous and planned work to promote social justice and equity.
